The First Use of the Wheel
The wheel is an important thing
that has helped people in many ways. Some
people think that the wheel is only for
transportation, but it was actually invented
to make pots. A long time ago in a place
called Mesopotamia, someone made a
special table that could spin around with a
piece of clay on top. When they turned the
table, it made the clay into a nice and
smooth shape for making pots. This
spinning table is called a potter's wheel and
it is one of the oldest mechanical devices
that we know about.
The potter's wheel helped potters
make better pots than they could by hand.
By spinning a lump of clay on the wheel,
they could make pots that were the same
size and shape
very quickly.
This changed
how people
made pots and
new kinds of
pottery were
created.
The
potter's wheel
spread to other parts of the world, like
Egypt, Greece, and Rome. People made it
better over time by using different
materials and techniques. Today, potters
still use the potter's wheel to make pots
and other kinds of art.
