The Simple Present Tense is used to describe actions, situations, or states that are generally true, happen regularly, or exist at the present time. It is one of the most frequently used tenses in English because it expresses habits, routines, facts, opinions, and scheduled events.

Unlike continuous tenses, the Simple Present does not emphasize that an action is happening right now. Instead, it presents the action as a fact or a regular occurrence.

The Simple Present is commonly used to express:

• General truths: The Earth revolves around the Sun.
• Habits and routines: She drinks coffee every morning.
• Permanent situations: They live in London.
• Feelings, opinions, and states: I believe your idea is excellent.
• Instructions or directions: Turn left at the traffic lights.
• Timetables and scheduled events: The train leaves at 7:30 a.m.

The tense is formed using the base form of the verb. For third-person singular subjects (he, she, it), -s or -es is added to the main verb.
