III. THE SIMPLE TENSE
The simple tense is one of the most fundamental verb forms in English.
It is used to describe actions, events, or states without emphasizing their duration or
progress. Instead, the focus is on the action itself as a fact, habit, routine, or
completed event.
The simple tense consists of three main forms:
Simple Present,
Simple Past, and
Simple Future.
Each form expresses an action in a different time frame while maintaining the same
basic idea that the action is viewed as complete or whole rather than ongoing.
Simple tenses are commonly used to express general truths, daily routines, repeated
actions, historical events, completed actions in the past, and future plans or
predictions. They are among the most frequently used tenses in both spoken and written
English.
