Adjectives are not always placed before the noun they modify. When they are used as subjective complements, they follow the verb, although they modify the subject; as, "Life is real," "The air seems moist." We also find many sentences like the following, "The camel, restless and weary, groans and occasionally shows his teeth."
Tính từ không phải lúc nào cũng được đặt trước danh từ mà chúng bổ nghĩa. Khi chúng được sử dụng như bổ ngữ chủ ngữ, chúng theo sau động từ, mặc dù chúng bổ nghĩa cho chủ ngữ; như "Life is real," "The air seems moist." Chúng ta cũng thấy nhiều câu như sau "The camel, restless and weary, groans and occasionally shows his teeth."
Here it is evident that the adjectives restless and weary are in the sentence to describe the camel; hence they modify the noun camel; but instead of preceding this noun, they follow it. Because of their position such adjectives are called appositive adjectives.
Ở đây rõ ràng các tính từ restless và weary có trong câu để miêu tả con lạc đà; do đó chúng bổ nghĩa cho danh từ camel; nhưng thay vì đứng trước danh từ này, chúng đứng sau nó. Vì vị trí của chúng, các tính từ như vậy được gọi là tính từ đồng vị.
2. Modification and Punctuation

An appositive adjective is usually set off by a comma or commas. It is frequently modified by a phrase, as in the expressions, "restless under his heavy load," "weary with the long journey."
