Reading Skill - Using Subheadings to Predict Content

Sometimes passages are divided into paragraphs that have subheadings. We can use our knowledge of the topic and these subheadings to predict some of the ideas that · may be in the passage.

A. Look at the passage. Read only the title and the subheadings of the four main paragraphs. What ideas do you think will be in each paragraph? Fill in the chart below with your predictions.

Also, talk with people who have experience studying abroad. And call the school to make sure someone can meet you when you - get there. Make sure to bring some local money and a credit card.

Once you are there

Be curious and open to meeting new people and having new experiences. Don't expect to always be comfortable. After the first few weeks it's usual to feel a little homesick.3 You'll miss your family and friends. Remember that it takes time to get used to a new place with new customs. Talk to your new friends and write about your feelings. Try to keep in touch with the people back home.
