Annie’s Cat

Annie Oakley was excellent at rope tricks. She could rope a cow from twenty feet away, and she could rope a snake in the grass. She could even rope her baby brother.
“I’ll bet you a dollar you can’t rope a cat,” said her friend Wild Bill.
“I’ll bet you I can,” said Annie.
So Wild Bill found Annie a cat. It was a big brown cat, and it was wild. It ran up a tree, and it chased its tail.
Annie threw her rope. It missed the cat. She threw it again. The cat ran off and chased a butterfly. Annie thought hard. Finally, she put down her rope. “Here, kitty, kitty,” she called. The cat ran over to her. Annie put the rope gently around its back. “Meet my new pet cat,” she told Wild Bill. “I’ll use your dollar to buy cat food!”
