I Dare You

Madge loved mystery books. She read them all day long. Her favorite mystery book was Sherlock Holmes.
“All you do is read,” cried her little sister Agatha. “You never play with me.”
Madge gave Agatha a book. “Read this,” she said. “It is a mystery story about Sherlock Holmes. You will love it.”
She was right. Agatha did love the book, but she pretended that she did not. “Anyone can write a mystery,” she said. “It is no big deal.”
Madge smiled. “Really? I dare you to write one yourself!”
Agatha took the dare. She wrote a mystery book. She went on to write 68 more, plus 100 short stories. Agatha Christie became a much-loved writer because of a dare.
