Smokey the Bear

“There is a big fire in New Mexico!” The call came at Station Nine. Mark heard it. He jumped into the fire truck and raced to the forest.
Trees were on fire. Mark and the other firefighters threw water on the flames. Something cried out, and Mark looked up. There in a tree was a bear cub.
“We have to save him!” Mark cried. He moved a ladder to the tree and climbed up. He took the bear cub and wrapped it in his coat. “You are safe now,” Mark said.
The cub went to live at the zoo in Washington, D.C. He was called Smokey the Bear. An artist drew him as a cartoon. It reminded people never to play with fire.
