Pat’s Music

Pat Gilmore loved music. His father took him to a meeting in Ireland. There, Pat heard his first band. “I want to make music, too,” he said. He learned to play the trumpet.
At 19 years old, Pat talked to his brother. “Let us go to America,” he said. “I want to play my trumpet in Boston.” He and his brother took a ship across the sea.
In Boston, Pat led two bands. Then, Abraham Lincoln wrote to him. “The war is over,” Abe said. “Let us have a party with music.”
Then, Pat got together a big band. He asked 5,000 kids to sing. There was even a cannon at the party! Pat was happy. He played his trumpet. A little boy heard him and said to his father, “I want to make music, too.”
