The Liberty Bell

Tom had a problem. The men in the United States asked him to make a liberty bell to show that they were free. He worked hard on the bell. He sent it on a boat from England to the United States. But when the men rang it, the bell cracked!
“Try again!” the men said. So Tom melted down the bell. He used the metal in it to make another one.
“This time it will not crack,” he said. But when the men rang it, the bell cracked again.
“Try again!” the men said. Tom made a third bell. The men rang it. It did not crack.
People rang that bell on the Fourth of July for eighty-one years. On the eighty-second year, they rang the bell again, and what do you think happened? It cracked!
