Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 1 (Fiction 4 - Mystery/Suspense/Adventure)

The Adventure

“We are going on an adventure,” said Bob to his friends. “We need to be prepared.”
Steve brought a rope. “You never know when you will have to pull someone out of quicksand,” he said.
Tina brought a whistle. “You never know when you might get lost and have to call someone,” she said.
Bob gave them a strange look and put on his backpack. He and his friends climbed over his fence. They jumped over a log. They walked across a brick wall. They waded through a puddle. Finally, they reached a park.
“Where is the quicksand?” Steve twirled his rope.
“I am not lost.” Tina put away her whistle.
Bob reached into his backpack. He put down a blanket and pulled out three sandwiches and some cookies. “It’s a picnic,” he said. “I am prepared. Are you?”
