The Note

Dad put spare change in a tin. He put the tin in his sock drawer. Jon found it one day
when he was helping to put away clean clothes.
“Wow!” he said to himself. “Dad won’t miss a few nickels.” He put three nickels in his
pocket and went to the store to buy candy.
The next week, he took two dimes. “Dad will never miss them,” he said. The week
after that, he took three quarters.
The fourth week, Jon sneaked up to Dad’s room. He
opened the drawer. There in the tin was a note. “Bank
robbers start by stealing nickels,” said the note.
John felt so bad. He did chores and earned money. Then
he put it all back into Dad’s tin.
