Runway Ghost

“Pat to Control Tower. There is a big white object on the runway.” Pilot Pat rubbed her eyes. Was it a ghost?

She stopped the plane. Behind her, she could hear people grumbling. Pat felt bad for making them late. But she could not take off with the big white object on the runway. “Control Tower to Pat. We will check it out.”

Pat saw three men drive up to the object. They got out of the car. One jumped back. Pat’s heart pounded. Suddenly, the big white object rose into the air. It flew off on wide wings. “Ghosts don’t have wings,” Pat said.

The Control Tower called her. “Control Tower to Pat. The object was a Snowy Owl. It landed on the runway. You’re good to go!
