The Silly Squirrel

In fall all the squirrels in the woods hid acorns. This way, they would have food to eat
in the winter. Silly Squirrel hid acorns. But he could not find them again!
Every winter Silly Squirrel had no food to eat. He had to ask his friend Sylvia for some
of her acorns. “Silly,” said Sylvia, “Why do you lose your acorns?”
Silly thought about this. “I hide them in holes all over the ground. But then I don’t
know where I put them.”
Sylvia gave Silly a leaf. She gave him a rock to use as a
pencil. “Make a map of the woods. Then, mark your hiding
places with an X.”
Silly made a map. Every time he hid an acorn, he marked the
hiding place on the map. The next winter he took out his map.
Then, he could find his acorns—every single one.
