Emily’s Rocket

Emily wanted to build a rocket. “I will go to Mars,” she said. “I will go to Pluto. I will even visit the moon.”

Scotty laughed. “You don’t know how to build a rocket!”

“I’ll show you,” said Emily. She found some wood and some nails. She found a hammer. She found an old pie tin and some bike pedals. She began to work. At last, Emily was done. “Turn these bike pedals,” she told Scotty. She climbed into the rocket.

He laughed again. “This will never work,” he said. But he turned the pedals. Suddenly, Emily was gone! The rocket shot straight up into the air. It landed on Mars, and Emily stepped out. “I showed you!” she called down to Scotty on Earth.

But he was gone. He’d made a rocket of his own, and he was waiting for Emily on Pluto.
