Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 1 (Fiction 5 - Fantasy)

Ant Boy

There was a boy who liked to step on ants. He went out of his way to step on them. “Ants do not matter,” he said.

One morning, the boy woke up to find that he had six legs. He had strong jaws, but he could not eat solid food. He could only drink juice. “I am an ant!” the boy cried.

The boy was very small. He could not get dressed because his pants only had room for two legs. He tried to crawl to school, but he had only reached his front door when the bell for nine o’clock rang.

“I’m late!” cried the boy. He tried to run as fast as his six legs would carry him. Then, a dark shadow loomed over him. He looked up and saw the sole of a shoe.

“Oh no!” cried the boy. “Please do not step on me! Ants do matter!” The next day, he woke up, and he was back to being a boy. But he never stepped on ants again.
