The Moon

Some nights, the moon is full. Other nights, it is a little slice. Why does the moon change its shape?

The moon makes a circle around Earth. Earth makes a circle around the sun. The moon changes shape when different parts of it are lit up.

When Earth is between the sun and the moon, we see a full moon. We can see just a little of the moon when it is a new moon. This is because the moon is between the sun and Earth.

The moon rises and sets every day. Even if you cannot see it, sometimes the moon is out with the sun during the day!
