Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was a 13-year old girl when she got hurt. She tried to stop a fight
between a slave and a master. She believed people should be free.
As an adult, Harriet helped to free her family.
Then, she helped other slaves to get free. She
walked with them all the way to Canada. On the
way, they stopped at houses for food and sleep.
These houses were called “safe houses.”
Harriet was also a nurse. She took care of men in
the Civil War. She also taught newly-freed slaves
to live on their own.
Harriet opened a home for old people. She raised
money for schools. She also helped women win
the right to vote. She was a great woman.
