Barnella

Once upon a time, there was a farmer.

“My name is Fred. I have a wife, and I have a daughter. My daughter’s name is Polly.” “We have a farm, and we have two tractors. It is a happy life,” said the wife.

One sad day, Polly’s mother died.
“I will get a new wife,” said her father.
The new wife was mean. She did not like Polly.

One day her dad went to town in his blue truck. “I will be home in time for dinner,” he said. He kissed Polly.

They called Polly, “Barnella.” They made her do many chores.
Pokey was the oldest stepsister. She said, “Barnella, clean the barn.”
Picky was the youngest. She said, “Barnella, get the eggs.”
The stepmother said, “Barnella, get my socks. Barnella, sweep the dirt.”
Polly was sad. She cried. Polly went to the barn.
Her father came home. He looked for Polly. She was under the haystack.
“They are mean,” she said.
“Let’s go,” said her father.

They went into the house. Polly packed a bag, and Dad packed a bag. They left for a short trip in the blue truck. Polly felt better after spending time with her dad.
