Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 2 (Fiction 1 - Fairy Tales and Folklore)

Savannah and the Giant Sunflower

Savannah lived in a little town. She had a mother and a father. She had one brother.

One rainy day her mother gave her $3.00.
“Buy milk at the store,” said mother.
“I will,” said Savannah. “I will get the milk for you.”

She put on her purple rain boots. Savannah put on her purple rain coat. She put on her purple rain hat. Then she left for the store.

Her friend was walking, too. He had on blue boots. He had on a blue hat, and his rain coat was blue.

“Hello, Savannah. Where are you going?”
“I am going to the store. I will buy milk for my mother. I have three dollars.”
“I have a magic sunflower plant.”
“How much is it?”
“It is three dollars.”

Savannah gave him the three dollars. She took the plant and went home. Her mom was mad. She threw it out the window.

From that plant a tall sunflower plant grew. It went to the sky.
