The Horses and the Troll

Kerry was the oldest horse in the family. He was six years old. He liked to work with his hands. Kerry was small, but he was smart.

Tim was the second oldest brother. He was four. Tim loved to read books. He was strong and tough.

Nate was the baby brother. He was very smart. Nate liked to play games.

Every day the three brothers loved to eat grass.

One day they met a mean troll who owned the bridge. He made them pay $1.00 a day to cross the bridge so they could eat grass on the other side.

One morning the grass was not good. It tasted sour. It tasted dry. The brothers were mad. They wanted to go home early, but the troll stopped them. He wanted to eat them for lunch.

He tried to eat Kerry, but he made a boat and crossed to the other side.

He wanted to eat Tim, but he was too tough to chew. His tail was like rubber.

When Nate came along, the troll tried to eat him, but Nate said they must play a game first. If the troll won, he could eat Nate for lunch. If Nate won, then he would not have to pay $1.00 each day.

Nate won the game. The three brothers never had to pay $1.00 again. The troll was mad and had to buy a new bridge.
