Ugly Monkey

Mother monkey was very surprised when she came back to the cave. She had three babies and not two. One of the babies was white. It did not have a monkey nose. It did not have a monkey tail. The eyes did not look like monkey eyes. It did not sound like a monkey.

She did not think it was a monkey, but she kept it anyway.

Every day she fed him. She fed him what monkeys eat. Momma played monkey games with him, too. She talked to him in monkey words.

When Momma was not looking, the two monkeys made fun of the white baby.

“You are ugly,” they said. “You are white, and you talk funny.”

The white baby was sad. He cried, but he still tried to be nice. Momma monkey loved him anyway.

One day the zookeeper came in the cage. She saw three babies. She then called her boss. He came running! They called 911.

It was not a baby monkey in the cage. It was a pretty baby boy.
