The Apple Girl

A city had a king. He was very mean, and the people did not like him. He made all the people give him their best apples.

One day the king rode around the city. He took all the best apples from the people. He even took the apples from the poor.

One poor man had a daughter. He wanted her to have a good life. He wanted his daughter to live in the great palace. He then thought of an idea.

When the king’s wagon had stopped, he told his daughter to jump into the wagon and hide under a basket of apples. He kissed her goodbye and wished her well. He then covered her with apples so no one would see her.

The king’s wagon went back to the palace. A servant took the apples off the wagon and found the girl. The servant was kind and helpful. He let her stay and work at the palace in the kitchen.

The king had a handsome son. He was very kind to people. He also liked to help in the kitchen.

The next day he met the new servant girl. He listened to her story, and they fell in love. When the old king died, the son became king. He was a kind ruler and did not take the best apples from the poor, and the people loved him.
