Why Bees Buzz

“Why do bees buzz, Grandfather?” asked the boy.
“I will tell you a story,” said the old man. “It is a sad story.”
“Tell me, Grandfather. Tell me now.”
“A long time ago, people and bees were friends. They talked, played, and they sang. They danced under the moon. The bees loved the people, and the people loved the bees.”

“Go on, Grandfather,” said the boy.

“One day it was dark outside. The sun did not come up in the sky. No one could see to turn on the lights. No one could make food, and no one could start a fire.”
“Then what?”
“A bee was sleeping in his bed. A little boy went looking for a light and then hit the bee on the head because the boy could not see. The bee got a bad bump on his head. The boy tried to say he was sorry, but the bee did not listen and just buzzed instead of talking.”

“But why did the bee stay mad?”

“He did not want to listen to the boy. He told all the other bees to buzz and not talk to people. Now bees and people are not friends anymore. Now they do not talk. They just buzz.”
