A Model House

As a child, John Lloyd Wright liked to watch his dad. His dad, Frank Lloyd Wright, made models of houses. He made the models out of thin pieces of wood. He made them look like the real thing. He painted on the windows. He made doors that could open and shut.

John wanted to be like his dad. He wanted to make models of houses, too. John did not have things to use to make model houses. He did not know how he could make models like his dad.

When John turned 24 years old, he had an idea. He made a little set of logs. John used a sharp knife. They were very small. He could hold them in his hand. The logs were made from wood. They had little cuts in each of the ends. The logs could be stacked. They could be turned. They could be made into a house.

“I will call them Lincoln Logs™,” he said. “I think many children will want to build houses with them.”

His idea was a hit. Kids wanted to play with his Lincoln Logs. It was 1916.
