Missing Money

“Where is my lunch money?”
sobbed Bill. “I just had it in my pocket.”
His teacher heard him crying. “Where do you think you lost it?”
“I think I dropped it when I got out of the car.”
“Do you want to go back out and look?”
“Yes, but I don’t want to go alone.”
“Go. Take Peter with you. Both of you can look on the sidewalk on the way to the
parking lot.”
They walked with their heads down. There was no money on the sidewalk.
No quarter was in the parking lot.
“Hey, Bill, look! I found two pennies.”
“You can keep those. Nobody can get lunch with two pennies.”
The two boys went to the office. They talked to the secretary.
“How much money did you lose?” she asked.
“I lost 25 cents,” said Bill. He wasn’t crying any more.
“I think this might be your lucky day. I think this belongs to you! A little boy came into
the office. He found one quarter by the cars. He wanted to make sure I kept it safe.”
“Really? Thanks, Ms. Nancy!”
Both boys ran back to the classroom. Bill had his money. He could eat lunch.
