Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 2 (Fiction 3 - Contemporary Realistic Fiction)

Skiing

Have you ever gone to the mountains? Have you even felt the wind in your hair? I have. It feels nice when the wind blows in my ears. The wind makes a soft noise. My ears feel cold.

We go to Big Bear Mountain. My family likes to ski. We all rent skis at the lodge. I get size 3 boots. They are black. My dad helps me with the buckles. He pushes them down tight.

I carry my skis. They are short and shiny. It is hard to carry them, because they are almost as big as I am. I put them on when I get outside. The poles stand alone in the snow. The boots make a snapping sound when I put my feet into them. The snap means they are on. It means they are ready to go.

Next, I head up to the ski lift. We ride to the top of the small mountain. My dad and I race to the bottom. He is very fast. Dad doesn’t even use his poles.

We go up and down. My mom and I ski together. Dad and I ski together. I ski with my sisters. The wind blows in my hair.

When the sun goes down, we are tired. Dad and I go to take off our skis. My sister turns in her snowboard. We all put on our boots. Our feet smell. Time to go home and rest.
