No Homework
My name is Carol Ann G. My friends called me “Cee” for short. I like the name. It
works for me. I want to be a reporter when I grow up. This is my story.
It was the day before vacation. We were all very happy about that. Our class had
talked about vacation. We talked about the things we wanted to do. We talked about
where we wanted to go. We talked about what we would see.
It was just fine until Kirk stood up. He wanted a turn to talk. I don’t like him much. He
is always bossy and mean. Kirk always hits other kids at recess. He is never friendly.
“I will be going to Florida,” Kirk said. “I will go to the beach and make sandcastles. My
sister and I will play in the sand. We will buy hot dogs. The sun will be hot, and we will
visit water parks.”
“Thank you, Kirk,” said my teacher. “That sounds like fun.”
We all felt bad. Our ideas were not like Kirk’s. We were not going to water parks. We
would not go to the beach. This was Minnesota. It was cold. Snow was everywhere.
We would read books. We would walk in the white snow. We would make snow
angels.
The bell rang to end class. Our teacher stood up. She said, “We will all do different
things on vacation. We will all see different things. The best part, I think, is that we will
have no homework!”
We cheered! She was right. We smiled and went home happy.
