Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 2 (Fiction 3 - Contemporary Realistic Fiction)

Moving Day

“Do you have your doll, Kali?” asked my dad.
“Yes, Dad,” said Kali.
“Andy, put the dog in the truck,” said dad.
“Okay, Dad.”
“Mom, are you ready to go? We have to get going. Did you pack a lunch?”
“I did. I made tuna sandwiches with cheese.”
“Yes!” we yelled. “Tuna with cheese!”
“Don’t spill them in my new truck,” said Dad.

We all hopped into the new, black truck. It was shiny. The engine was loud. Dad and Mom hopped in. We closed the doors, and Dad started the truck.

“I love this truck,” said Andy.
“Me, too,” I said. “It has a nice ride.”

Mom turned on the radio. We all started to sing loudly.

“Hi, Ho, Hi, Ho, it’s off to a new town we go.”
Mom giggled. Dad laughed.
I stopped singing. “Dad, are you scared?”
“I guess I am, just a little bit. Why do you ask?”
“Well, I am a little scared. I am excited, too. Is that okay?”
“It is, princess. As long as we have each other, we will be fine!”
“Hi, Ho, Hi, Ho, it’s off to a new town we go,” we all sang.
