The Tent

Jessica and Shelley were staying in the tent. The tent was in the yard. It was a nice night. There were stars in the sky. The moon was shining.

Jessica was telling Shelley stories. Shelley was pushing her toes in the bottom of her bag. Jessica was holding her bear.

A big bird flew over the tent, and a mouse ran by. The trees were moving in the wind. There was a noise on the side of the tent.

“It was a dark, starry night when Betsy Ross was sewing the flag . . . ,” said Jessica.
Shelley wanted to scare Jessica so she thought of a plan.
“Can I tell a story?” Shelley asked.
“Yes,” said Jessica. “It is your turn anyway.”

Shelley took her light. Shelley moved the light under the blanket. When Jessica wasn’t looking, Shelley threw her shoe against the wall. It made a loud noise.

“What was that?” asked Jessica.
“I think it was a big bug,” said Shelley. “I think it wants to eat us!”
“How do you know?” asked Jessica.
“I saw it! It was huge!” Shelley yelled. Then Jessica yelled. Shelley said, “It was my old shoe! Got you!”
