Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 2 (Fiction 5 - Fantasy)

Wishes

Have you ever wanted to have someone else’s feet? I have. My sister has tiny feet. Mine are big. Very big! She has size 2, and I have size 6. I always have wanted my sister’s feet.

Today when I went to put on my shoes, they did not fit. My feet slipped right in and right back out. What was wrong with me?

I looked at the shoes. They were mine. I tried again. Too big. In fact, they looked like clown shoes. Maybe it was the laces. I tied the laces tighter. No use. The shoes were still too big.

I heard a scream from my sister’s room. Mom and I both ran to her room. She was crying on the floor. Jessica was holding her feet. They were huge. She was looking at her shoes.

“Mom,” she said, “I got monster feet last night! My shoes don’t fit. What am I going to do?”

Mom said, “I don’t know. Do your feet hurt?”

I looked at my feet. I looked at Jessie’s feet. An idea came to me. I ran to my bedroom and got my shoes. She gave me her shoes. We put them on. We both looked funny.

I didn’t want to tell her what had happened. All I can say is I hope all my other wishes do not come true!
