Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 2 (Nonfiction 4 - Science)

Amphibians

Do you think that only fish can live in the water? It is not true. Other kinds of animals can live there, too. They are called amphibians.

These are animals that can live in the water, and they can also live on land.

Most of them hatch out of eggs. Frogs and toads hatch from eggs. They live in the water and on land.

They also have smooth, wet skin. This means that they have to live close to water so they will not get too dry. If their skin gets too dry, they will die. They will not be able to live.

All of them have legs. When they are on land, they move around by hopping or walking.

Can you think of one that hops, has wet skin, and lives on land and in the water?
