Working in the Mines

All over the world, there are men in mines. They are called miners. They work under the ground. They put coal into cars. Others dig for iron. Each miner digs and digs. Miners move the coal or iron. They move the gold or silver. They take it out of the ground. The gold or silver is sent away to be sold. The iron is sent away, and the coal is sent away, too.

There have been many bad days in the mines. Some walls have fallen in. Men have gotten stuck under the ground.

When the men were stuck, some of them had air to breathe. Others ran out of air in the holes. Some ran to get out, but others could not get out. Rocks would fall, and wood crashed. Things did not go well. People thought of ways to save the miners who could not get out.

Working in a mine is a hard job. It is not very safe. These men are brave. They go down in the ground day after day.
