Good Aim

Frederick was the greatest shooter in the land. He was admired for his talent. He shot a bow and arrow with excellent skill. His father was amazed with his young boy. The entire village was impressed.

Each night Frederick would bring home food for dinner. He would shoot birds and wild game. On occasion, he would shoot larger animals. The family and the village were thrilled with his offerings.

Eric was another young man from the village. He too could shoot a bow and arrow, but he was not as good as Frederick. He was angry that he could not shoot as well. He decided to challenge Frederick to a contest. He wanted to be the best in the village.

When the day of the contest finally arrived, the village people gathered around to watch. Eric and Frederick were to shoot at a target. Whoever got the closest to the center would be the winner. Eric would shoot first. As he took his stance, a lion poked his head through the forest. He was looking at Eric. He lunged. Just as Eric went to shoot, Frederick jumped in front of him and shot the lion with an arrow. The lion fell to the ground.

The village people saw what Frederick had done to save Eric. They all cheered. Eric was speechless. He was so grateful that Frederick had saved his life that he dropped his bow and arrow and bowed to Frederick calling him the greatest shooter in the land.
