Surprising Twist

The king sent a proclamation to all the land that he was in need of a personal companion. The king needed someone he could trust and someone he could enjoy spending time with.

When the lion came through the door, the king was pleased. He knew the lion would make a great companion. He asked the lion to explain his talents for the king.

The lion responded with, “I am big. I am respected. I can roar loudly. I can be fierce and I can protect you, your majesty.”

The king then asked for the next interviewee. A gasp filled the king’s chambers when a mouse entered the room. Giggles were heard throughout the room. The lion laughed the loudest.

“Well, well,” said the king. “What can you do for me? You are so small.”

The mouse cleared his throat and said, “You are right. I am small. But I am a hard worker and I can solve problems.”

Just then the king’s crown fell from his head and landed under the table. The lion, anxious to show the king his skill, jumped to get the crown for the king. However, the lion could not get his head through the benches. He could not reach the crown.

The mouse waited patiently and then quietly walked under the bench and retrieved the crown. “Here you go, your majesty,” said the mouse, proving his point. The king decided that the mouse would be the best choice.
