Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 4 (Fiction 3 - Contemporary Realistic Fiction)

Artistic Talent

Eli was running down the hall to art class. He loved art, and he had what people said was natural talent. He slowed to a walk as he ran by Mrs. Robinson’s classroom. She was always hollering at him to slow down.

Three more doors and he would be there! Eli slid into class and found his seat at the back table. Mr. Jones was sketching on a pad, waiting for all the students to enter. Eli was so excited to finish up the project he had been working on. It was a birthday present for his dad.

As Eli sat down, he glanced at the counter to see his project. What he saw made him gasp for air. Eli and his dad would never forget this birthday present! Eli’s project was covered in blue paint. The only way he knew it was his project was because his name was peeking through the paint. Next to the project was a blue can of paint turned over on its side.

Eli ran to the counter and lifted up the can of paint.
