Family Reunion

“What time is it?”

“It’s almost four o’clock.”

“What time does the plane get in?”

“Four-thirty.”

Brenda said, “Oh, good. They should be here any minute now.” It had been an exciting week in Brenda’s family. Brenda was 10 years old and an only child. Her parents had tried for years to have more children, but they had been unable to.

For the last two years, they had been working to adopt two children from China. The children were a set of twin girls. Word had finally been received that the time was right. Brenda’s mom and grandmother had traveled to pick up the girls and bring them home. Brenda couldn’t wait to meet her new sisters.

Brenda’s dad stood peering out the window of the airport. Brenda could tell he was nervous because of the way he kept shifting his feet.

“Are you nervous, Dad?” asked Brenda. “It’s going to be okay!”

“I know,” replied her dad. “I’m just wondering what our house is going to be like with so many girls in it.”

Brenda chuckled and gave her dad a hug. Just then, the flight attendant opened the door to the airplane. Brenda stood up on a chair to peer over the crowd.
