April Fool’s Day
Adam’s frustration started as soon as he opened his eyes. He woke up to the fire alarm blaring in his ear. Adam never really believed in April Fool’s Day, but on this particular day, he was beginning to wonder. When he went to brush his teeth, his toothbrush was nowhere to be found. It took him 20 minutes to find his jacket—which happened to be in the garage, of all places. How on Earth did it get there?
Adam was late for school because his mother couldn’t find her car keys. When it came time to turn in his homework, Adam was not surprised to see that it wasn’t in his backpack, even though he vividly remembered putting it in the backpack that morning. What was he going to do? What was going on?
Adam shuffled his feet as he walked to the office to get an I.O.U. He had lost his lunch ticket somewhere between the classroom and the cafeteria. He was about to give up when he saw his friend Fred walking down the hallway towards him. Fred had the biggest smile on his face. As Fred passed, he laughed out loud. Adam wondered what it was all about.
“Fred, what’s going on?” asked Adam.
“You really don’t get this, do you?” questioned Fred.
“Do you really think that the spell you put on me yesterday really worked?” Adam asked incredulously.
Fred continued chuckling as he walked down the hall.
