The Quest
“Now remember,” said Joshua’s mother, “I want you home at 2:30—no later than that. Understand?”
“Yes, yes, Mother, I understand,” Joshua said angelically. He wasn’t a big fan of school, especially these days, since they were studying Egypt. He slowly walked up the steps to his classroom.
“Oh, great!” said his friend Evan sarcastically. “We get to go hear Mr. Jones drone on and on about Egypt!”
A group of boys laughed and started to walk inside the classroom.
“All right, students, let’s begin the day with Egypt, shall we?” Mr. Jones called out. Almost all the students groaned inwardly. The class began reading out of their books. Before long, Joshua started to fall asleep. He kept drifting in and out until finally he was asleep.
Joshua felt something warm underneath his feet. It felt like sand. He opened his eyes to find that it was sand. He stood up and found that he was standing next to a pyramid.
“What?” He didn’t know where he was. Then he said under his breath, “I’m in Egypt, 2,000 years ago!”
Suddenly, someone yelled, “Hey, you get out of there right now, you tomb-robber! Stay right there, you ruffian!”
Joshua turned to run. He ran into the pyramid and glanced around. It was amazing. He decided that when he got back to Mr. Jones’ class, he better pay more attention.
Just then, a group of men came running at Joshua with their knives in the air…
