Fly Away Home

The Jenson family planned a summer vacation each year that was out of this world. This summer they decided to make their first trip in their new machine. That’s right—Mr. Jensen had invented the first car/spacecraft combination ever. His machine could fly or drive at the flip of a switch. The hours in a car were shortened; and if they wanted to explore, they just went back to car mode.

The Jensons were excited to try out the machine. Their trip to the Grand Canyon was sure to be a hit. The first day of travel was smooth. They reached Flagstaff, Arizona with plenty of time to hit the hot tub.

The next morning, they began their drive to the Grand Canyon. As they boarded, Mr. Jenson flipped the switch to fly so that they could hover over the Grand Canyon and check out the beautiful site. They hovered in the air. All of a sudden, there was a crackling sound and the car immediately began its descent. It descended all the way down to the bottom of the canyon at record speed. The car came to a screeching halt.

“Is everyone okay?” asked Mr. Jenson. No one said a word. They climbed out of the machine. They were happy to be on solid ground again.

“Come on! Isn’t anyone going to get back in the car with me?”

“No, thanks,” the other Jensons replied. “We’ll wait for the next burro to come along.”
