Daily Warm-Ups Reading - Grade 4 (Fiction 5 - Fantasy)

Grocery Shopping

Emma and Ed were twins. They had been asked to stop by the grocery store on their way home from school. The twins met up after school and headed for the store.

Emma pulled the list out of her backpack.

“Bread, milk, apples . . . It’s all here,” said Emma.

“Does it say anything about cereal?” asked Ed.

“Of course, but it doesn’t say the kind. I guess that means you get to pick it out,” said Emma.

“Yes!” replied Ed.

Ed made his way to the cereal aisle. He loved to pick out the cereal. He walked down the aisle until he found his cereal. He reached up on the high shelf to pull down a box. But instead of the box, he touched something else! He looked up to see a hand where the box was. The hand reached down and pulled Ed up in the air. He was dangling from the cereal shelf.

“Help!” he called. There was no response. “Help!” he tried again. This time he could see Emma coming down the aisle. Emma saw Ed dangling and reached up to pull him down.

“Ed! What are you doing? I can’t take you anywhere,” said Emma.

Ed was stunned. He tried to catch his breath. Emma reached down, picked up a box of cereal, and threw it in the cart. Ed couldn’t move, so Emma grabbed his hand and pulled him away. Ed glanced back at the aisle. He could see the hand waving at him.
