John F. Kennedy
John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States. He was a very young president, and many people admired his leadership style. Born into a wealthy family, he was one of nine children. He attended private schools and graduated from Harvard University. When World War II broke out, Kennedy enlisted in the Navy and became a war hero after saving many men when their ship was attacked.
After the war, he ran for U.S. Senator in Massachusetts and won by a large margin, serving two terms. In 1960, he ran for president and took part in the first televised debates against Richard Nixon. He was elected by a narrow margin and became the youngest person ever elected president. He and his wife, Jackie, raised their young children in the White House.
As president, Kennedy worked hard to solve difficult problems. He created the Peace Corps and other programs to serve the nation. His presidency was cut short when he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, in November 1963. Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for the crime.
