Lost Owner
Taylor and Gwen were excited the afternoon they found a lost dog. The dog was white and fluffy with thick fur. The girls had been hanging signs up around their apartment building trying to find the owner, but they didn’t really want to find the owner.
“Lost dog,” called Taylor.
The next morning, the dog followed Taylor to school. Taylor had to call her mom to come and get it. Gwen took the dog with her on her paper route that afternoon, asking customers if they recognized the dog.
That evening, they couldn’t find the dog. The girls searched everywhere in the apartment, but the dog was missing. Just then, they heard a knock at the door. Mother opened the door to find a man standing there. “What can I do for you?” she asked.
“I’ve lost my white dog. I’ve searched for days and can’t find it,” he explained.
Taylor and Gwen’s heart sank. “We used to know where it was,” explained Mother, “but it has since vanished.”
The man went on. “Well, would you be interested in the dog? Our family is moving, and we have to get rid of it. I wish I could have found the dog a home before we left.”
“Yes!” screamed the girls. “The dog has a home here!”
“That is, if you can find the dog,” reminded Mother.
“That’s great,” said the man, and he headed outside. The girls began searching again for the dog. That is, they began searching for their dog.
