Email Messaging
Most schools in the country have access to the Internet and to electronic mail. Thousands of dollars and many hours of volunteer time have been spent to ensure this is the case. Most people agree that they want their schools to be on the cutting edge of technology. Why then do many teachers neglect to use the resources at their fingertips?
There are many teachers who fail to communicate with parents via email. This is such a quick and easy thing to do. However, too many teachers feel that they do not have the time or the desire to be that involved technologically.
There are many benefits to having teachers communicate with parents via email on a regular basis. One of the benefits for parents is that they are able to stay up to date on missed assignments or homework that has not been turned in. Parents can also stay up to date on grades of their children. This valuable information not only helps the parents be informed, but it holds students accountable knowing that the email notices are coming home.
Email messaging is also convenient. Parents do not need to make special trips to meet with teachers. Email communication eliminates the need for both parents and teachers to try and catch each other using the phone. In many ways, email communication is even better than a parent-teacher conference! The parent is only allowed around 15 minutes per conference—that’s enough time to say hello and goodbye.
