The Practical Joke
Kenny’s frustration started as soon as he opened his eyes. Being the youngest of four boys had its moments. Kenny realized that he was never going to make it into the shower before the bus came, so he got his clothes on and ran his fingers through his hair. He could hear his brothers fighting over the shower.
Kenny poured himself a bowl of milk and cold cereal. Granola was his favorite cereal. Kenny grabbed the comics and sat down. Kenny’s first bite was a big one. He was hungry. As he chewed he thought something seemed different, but he didn’t think much about it. Snickers from around the room indicated that something must be up. Kenny put the comics down and looked at all the faces staring at him and giggling.
Kenny looked down at his bowl and realized that it was indeed granola, but it also had dead ants, grasshoppers, and other various insects.
Kenny pushed his bowl across the table and stood up. “That’s disgusting!” he yelled. He ran to the sink to rinse out his mouth. “How could you do that?”
Kevin, the brother just older than Kenny, fell out of his chair. Kyle smiled at Kenny and said, “You’ve got to watch out for him, man!”
Later on the bus, Kenny had an idea. He sat in the back in Kevin’s spot. He deserved it. Besides, Kevin would just sit in the other back seat, which he did. Kenny’s plan was sure to work. Slowly, Kenny reached over and pulled the fire alarm on the bus. He subtly tossed the fire alarm rope onto Kevin’s seat. Kevin jumped up, but it was too late. The bus driver was glaring at Kevin.
