Searching for Big Foot

Sightings of Big Foot had been seen in the woods near Leroy’s house for years. Leroy was not a fan of the supernatural stories. He did not believe in things like Big Foot, the Loch Ness monster, or the Abominable Snowman. However, he knew the town relied on the tourist dollars that the supposed sightings brought to the town. People were anxious to catch even just a slight glimpse of the creature, even if Leroy wasn’t.

One evening, Leroy could not find his cat, Stymie. Stymie was now fifteen years old and hard of hearing, so hollering for him did no good. He knew he would have to go looking for him and that meant a trek into the woods. Leroy went inside and changed into his best hiking boots and then grabbed a flashlight in case it got dark before he could find his cat.

Leroy might not believe in Big Foot, but it didn’t mean he still wasn’t a little nervous whenever he entered the woods. After all, if people weren’t seeing Big Foot, they were seeing something. It was possible, Leroy believed, that there was some other extra-large creature in the woods. Maybe it was a bear or a huge deer that confused the tourists.

As Leroy walked, the noises of the woods started to make him extremely nervous. Even though he knew his cat probably couldn’t hear him, he still hollered his name just to break the silence of the night. After looking for over an hour, Leroy was tired and dejected. He decided to head back to his house, hoping Stymie had returned while he was gone. As he turned around, Leroy caught sight of something huge and furry. It was a flash of something running. He only saw it for a moment, but it was enough to make him realize that whatever it was, it was huge. Instead of running away, he ran toward where he had seen the giant creature. There in the mud were several large footprints.

Leroy ran the rest of the way home. Spotting Stymie on the porch, he snatched the cat, went inside, and locked the front door.
