Listen to the minimal pair sentences again and bold the strongly stressed words. Stressed syllables are LOUDer and slower. Unstressed syllables are quieter and quicker. This gives English its rhythm.
EXAMPLE Would you like jam?
Pair 1: That’s a wonderful joke. / That’s a wonderful yolk.
Pair 2: There’s no juice. / There’s no use.
Pair 3: Would you like jam? / Would you like yam?
Pair 4: Jess, I love you. / Yes, I love you.
